The Danish Medicines Council reports that its assessment backlog is nearly cleared.
A record 81 applications for new medicine assessments were received from pharmaceutical companies in 2025, compared with 66 in 2024. The volume created a backlog, delaying the planned start of some assessments.
Following additional funding in October 2025, the Council states that:
-
Most applications received in 2025 have now been completed.
-
All new assessments are now starting as planned.
-
The final delayed assessment has begun, but has been in clock-stop since March 2026 at the company’s request.
The Council expects to decide on that medicine in January 2027.
Alongside the backlog-reduction work, the Council has worked to digitalise and streamline new medicine assessments. This includes a new digital applicant portal designed to make the application process easier for companies.
