Denmark is reviewing reimbursement status across the allergy medicine area.
The Danish Medicines Agency has received the Reimbursement Committee’s final recommendations on changes to current reimbursement for allergy medicines. The proposal covers 60+ products and spans two broad categories:
Scope
-
Symptomatic treatments (nasal, ocular, and oral medicines).
-
Allergen immunotherapy.
Key points in the final recommendations
-
For symptomatic treatment, reimbursement should be available for the cheapest medicines within each medicine group.
-
Allergen immunotherapy should generally be considered only when symptomatic treatment is insufficient; most immunotherapies are recommended to have clause-based reimbursement reflecting this condition.
-
Grazax vs Aitgrys: continued recommendation to limit Grazax reimbursement to existing patients; new patients should receive reimbursement for Aitgrys, citing differences in total treatment costs.
The Danish Medicines Agency will now assess the recommendations and make a decision; any changes would take effect no earlier than autumn, after peak allergy season.
