Denmark is not fully utilising vaccination’s potential, according to Lif.
In a new vaccine plan, Lif (the Danish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry) says Denmark’s vaccination offers can be hard to navigate and that public assessment of new vaccines is too slow. Lif argues that the current system can require a separate allocation in the finance act to initiate a vaccine assessment, which it says may delay access to new vaccines by years.
Selected problems cited by Lif
-
Only 40% of Danish diabetes patients and 45% of heart patients under 65 were vaccinated against influenza in 2022–23, versus 81% among people aged 65+.
-
In 2025, only 5.6% of COPD patients were vaccinated against RSV, despite eligibility for reimbursement.
Lif’s recommendations
-
Make vaccine assessments more efficient and focused on overall benefits.
-
Improve access and targeted initiatives to increase uptake.
-
Integrate vaccination into broader health strategies.
-
Strengthen data-driven follow-up and research.
