No suppliers have withdrawn from Norway’s upcoming cancer tender because of U.S. MFN policy.
Sykehusinnkjøp says that, so far, no bidder has communicated a decision to withdraw from the cancer tender due to the U.S. “most favoured nation” policy. The tender will take effect on 1 October 2026.
The agency nevertheless describes the situation as uncertain. It has not discussed MFN with pharmaceutical companies’ headquarters, although some local company representatives have said they cannot rule out future changes without specifying them.
Current status:
-
Sykehusinnkjøp is working with Nordic counterparts and engaging with companies and other procurement organisations.
-
U.S. authorities set out in May 2025 an aim to link U.S. medicine prices to the lowest prices in comparable wealthy OECD countries.
-
AstraZeneca has said there is a risk that Norway could be deprioritised for launches, while stating it had not decided to delay or forgo Norwegian launches.
How the policy may affect future access to new medicines remains unresolved.
